Courtney is a multi-disciplinary designer, specializing in metalwork and wearable handmade jewelry. She embarked on her artistic journey at East Carolina University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metal Design in 2011. Under the mentorship of Timothy Lazure, Linda Darty, and Bob Ebendorf, Courtney honed her skills in casting, forming, enameling, and contemporary jewelry techniques.

During her undergraduate years, Courtney's artistic exploration revolved around the theme of "home." She employed lost-wax methods to capture and cast cherished family heirlooms, creating tangible connections to her personal history. Her preferred mediums were etching and enameling, using family photographs and collected handwriting samples to craft intricate and sentimental objects.

Following a move from central North Carolina to the coast, Courtney found herself captivated by the breathtaking beauty of her new surroundings. This shift in environment sparked a transition in her artistic focus, leading her to establish Sterling and Salt—a jewelry brand inspired by the coastal allure. Guided by intuition and spontaneity, Courtney seeks to capture the rich textures and intricate patterns of the landscapes that surround her. Using a saw, she meticulously hand-pierces her designs and adds texture through the skillful use of hand-forged chasing tools.

In 2016, Courtney seized an incredible opportunity to intern with Tuli Jewelry, a non-profit program dedicated to empowering women in Kenya and Uganda through jewelry creation. This experience allowed her to contribute to the development and fabrication of a new product line, showcasing her versatility and commitment to making a positive impact through her art.

Driven by her passion for both art and education, Courtney returned to East Carolina University to pursue her Masters in Art Education, which she successfully completed in 2019. This academic achievement further deepened her understanding of art's transformative power and strengthened her commitment to sharing her knowledge and creativity with others.

Courtney's artistic journey is characterized by a profound connection to her personal history, an unyielding appreciation for her natural surroundings, and a dedication to uplifting communities through her craft. With each meticulously handcrafted piece, she invites others to experience the beauty and significance that can be found in the smallest details of life.
